NEW ORLEANS – After teasing a possible return to national politics, former New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu reportedly announced a lengthy review of the replies beneath his social media posts before concluding they no longer reflect his values and should be “relocated” from their prominent positions.
Sources say the decision followed months of overwhelmingly negative comments questioning everything from his presidential ambitions to his role as chairman of President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign before Biden exited the race. Landrieu then joined Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign, becoming one of the few political figures to help lead two presidential campaigns in the same election cycle, neither of which won.
Landrieu reportedly insisted the replies are not being erased from history, only removed from places of honor beneath his posts and preserved in a secure archive until a more appropriate location can be determined.
The overnight operation was carried out by a company that requested anonymity after reportedly receiving threats from people promising to leave even more comments if its identity became public. Workers logged onto all of Landrieu’s social media accounts under the cover of darkness and quietly removed thousands of replies before sunrise, refusing to reveal their schedule for security reasons.
