BATON ROUGE, LA – Following the announcement that the city’s hockey team will once again be known as the Kingfish, local residents expressed overwhelming relief that they may finally retire the annual five-minute explanation of why Baton Rouge’s hockey team had been named after something seemingly unrelated to the city.
“It’s exhausting,” said lifelong Baton Rouge resident Mark Hebert. “Every time somebody asked about the Zydeco, I’d have to explain that it’s a style of South Louisiana music that exists nowhere in Baton Rouge. Yes, we used to be the Kingfish, and no, I don’t know why they changed it.”
City officials estimate the name change will collectively save residents thousands of hours previously spent defending a branding decision they didn’t make.
Marketing consultants praised the return to Kingfish as an innovative strategy known in the industry as “using the name everyone liked in the first place.”
Local fans have already begun celebrating the rebrand, saying they’re simply happy the conversation can finally return to hockey instead of explaining the logo before the puck is ever dropped.
The next issue hockey fans will address is why you can’t get Raising Cane’s chicken fingers in the Raising Cane’s River Center.
