BATON ROUGE, LA – In its annual seasonal outlook, the National Weather Service confirmed Monday that Baton Rouge will once again bypass fall entirely, transitioning directly from “surface of the sun” to “surprise Christmas cold front” sometime around late November.
Meteorologists explained that while most of the country enjoys colorful leaves, crisp mornings, and pumpkin patches, South Louisiana residents can instead expect another six to eight weeks of sweating through T-shirts while pretending a pumpkin spice latte somehow counts as autumn.
“We’re forecasting several ‘false falls,'” said one meteorologist. “Residents will wake up to 68 degrees, immediately post ‘FINALLY!’ on Facebook, put on a hoodie, then regret every decision they’ve ever made by 11:15 a.m. when the heat index reaches 97.”
Local stores have already begun displaying decorative gourds alongside Halloween decorations, despite shoppers still sprinting across parking lots to avoid spontaneous heat stroke.
Meanwhile, lifelong Baton Rouge residents reported they have developed a highly specialized wardrobe consisting of shorts, flip-flops, and exactly one hoodie that stays in the truck year-round for the annual 47-minute appearance of actual fall.
Several residents admitted they now identify the changing seasons not by the temperature, but by when gumbo starts sounding like a better idea than grilling.
