BATON ROUGE, LA – Millions of LSU fans spent the offseason studying recruiting rankings, watching practice clips, and debating depth charts, but local marriage counselors spent it preparing for what they call their busiest time of year.
Several counseling offices across Baton Rouge confirmed they have increased staffing ahead of football season after years of observing a direct correlation between LSU kickoff times and domestic disagreements.
“We see the same pattern every year,” said one counselor. “A husband says he’s only going to watch the game. Four hours later he’s watching postgame analysis, then SEC highlights, then recruiting updates, then a podcast explaining the recruiting updates.”
Counselors say common complaints include missed family events, excessive television volume, and the phrase “just one more video” being repeated 37 consecutive times.
The situation becomes especially challenging after wins, when fans spend entire weekends consuming celebratory content, and after losses, when fans spend entire weekends consuming angry content.
Several local offices have also introduced a new emergency service allowing spouses to schedule appointments immediately following controversial SEC officiating decisions.
One Baton Rouge counselor reported already receiving calls from concerned spouses despite the season not having started yet.
“We’re not saying LSU football causes marital stress,” she explained. “We’re just saying our busiest months happen to coincide perfectly with football season every single year.”
