BATON ROUGE, LA – An anti-ICE protest on College Drive unintentionally entered its second day after participants realized they were physically unable to leave due to the road’s normal bumper to bumper traffic.
The protest was originally planned as a brief afternoon demonstration but by early evening organizers acknowledged the event had evolved into an overnight situation when both protesters and commuters remained motionless, united by brake lights and poor life choices.
“At some point we stopped chanting and just accepted this was our new reality,” said one protester, who estimated they had been trying to turn out of the parking lot for at least 9 hours.
Drivers trapped nearby reported confusion over whether the protest was ongoing or if College Drive had simply absorbed another group of victims. Several said they assumed the demonstrators were commuters who were protesting the traffic.
Officials confirmed the protest did not impact traffic flow, noting College Drive already operates at maximum congestion at all times.
By Sunday morning, protesters were seen sharing snacks and phone chargers while organizers confirmed the protest would continue “until College Drive releases us.”
