BATON ROUGE, LA – In what sports reporters are calling “a rare act of accountability,” former LSU head coach Brian Kelly has reportedly offered the university a $500 buyout credit for every screen pass he called on 3rd and long during his time at LSU, provided they don’t go through photos folder on his laptop prior to the payout.
The offer came in an email to athletic officials Monday, described as “a good-faith gesture to help reduce tensions” surrounding his reported $27 million buyout. LSU accountants estimate the rebate could fully erase the balance once the 2023 Ole Miss game alone is reviewed.
“I want to do what’s right for the program,” Kelly wrote. “Those plays hurt us all emotionally, financially, and spiritually.” Sources say he also offered an additional $1,000 discount for every 3rd-and-17 draw play that “went exactly as designed” if the LSU IT department also deletes all of his emails.
LSU officials said they’ve begun a full audit of past play calls “to ensure accuracy.” One coach joked the process could finally bring closure “to decades of play calling trauma” members of the coaching staff have suffered.
When asked for comment, Kelly said he’s willing to negotiate further “if LSU includes bubble screens in the count.”
