BATON ROUGE, LA – In a not-so-surprising turn of administrative honesty, the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles announced today that the federal REAL ID deadline will be extended—after it was discovered that the Baton Rouge OMV is still working through walk-ins from 2019.
“We recently found a stack of handwritten sign-in sheets in the breakroom microwave,” said OMV spokesperson Linda Aucoin. “Turns out we still owe service to several dozen people who walked in during the summer of that year. One man was listed simply as ‘Greg’”
The state confirmed that under emergency provisions, anyone able to prove they were physically present at an OMV location in 2019 will be allowed a deadline extension.
Longtime local Brent Trahan, now 42, was finally called to the counter this week after checking in shortly after Game of Thrones ended. “They said my number was next. I cried,” he said.
To avoid further embarrassment, the OMV will now offer digital appointments, time-travel-based queuing, and possibly a lottery system sponsored by Powerball.
In unrelated news, the Baton Rouge OMV also located a missing person case from 2020—he was #B229.
