BATON ROUGE, La. – Baton Rouge Police have quietly updated policy after one of their own turned a routine beer run into a fireworks display, crashing a patrol unit while allegedly over the legal limit, according to a WBRZ investigation.

Officer Loren Gaskin, whose BAC reportedly could’ve powered the vehicle better than gasoline, allegedly took a squad car on a quick beer run—ending in a crash that lit both the car and public confidence on fire.
Officials insist the change in policy is not an admission of fault, but rather a “recommitment to common sense.”
“Going forward, officers are reminded that beer runs, liquor pickups, and frozen daiquiri emergencies are not mission-critical operations,” said one high-ranking source.
The updated policy goes into effect immediately—though several officers have asked if it includes an exception for LSU game days.
