BATON ROUGE, LA – Tensions escalated at a local Amazon facility after employees learned the sprawling warehouse was built directly on top of the former Cortana Mall — a once-thriving shopping center abandoned to time, asbestos, and shattered Orange Julius dreams.
Workers claim strange occurrences have plagued the building for months, including unexplained temperature drops, ghostly carousel music, and the phantom smell of Mama Brava’s pepperoni pizza drifting through the loading docks.
“We deserve hazard pay,” said one employee. “Nobody told us we’d be working on cursed retail ground. You can still feel the sadness of every Sunglass Hut that didn’t make it.”
Amazon maintained that all “residual retail energy” was properly cleared during demolition and dismissed concerns as “nostalgic anomalies.”
Still, multiple workers have reported glimpses of shadowy figures sprinting through the break room, “as if late for a Bath & Body Works clearance event that no longer exists.”
Paranormal investigators believe the strongest residual energy at the site comes from Space Port, warning that a malfunctioning claw machine could now be controlling warehouse equipment.
For now, Amazon employees are left wondering what’s more dangerous: workplace accidents—or the restless spirit of a mall that refused to die quietly.
