BAKER, La. – In an inspiring display of commitment to tradition, the Baker School Board has vowed to fight BESE’s intervention, insisting that only they have the experience necessary to keep local education standards at rock bottom.

The district, which proudly earned an F rating in 2024 with a score of 48.4, has long maintained its position as one of the state’s lowest-performing school systems. But board members argue that their steady record of failure should be left undisturbed.
“We have worked tirelessly to maintain our schools’ underperformance, and BESE thinks they can just waltz in and ‘fix’ things? Absolutely not,” declared one board member, clutching a decades-old textbook.
Parents remain divided. Some support BESE’s intervention, while others fear change could lead to dangerous levels of learning.
BESE officials, meanwhile, remain skeptical. “We’re not sure what’s worse—taking over or letting them keep doing whatever this is.”
The lawsuit is expected to drag on for months, much like a Baker High student repeating the 10th grade.
