BATON ROUGE, LA – The Louisiana Secretary of State’s Office announced Monday that it has officially adopted a new cost-saving measure: permanently printing Cleo Fields’ name on every statewide ballot and simply updating the office he’s running for.
Officials said the decision came after realizing Fields has spent nearly four decades rotating between elected offices and campaign announcements.
“We’ve redesigned ballots for State Senate, U.S. Congress, governor, back to State Senate, back to Congress, and now back toward State Senate again,” one election employee said. “At some point you have to think about the taxpayers.”
Fields has served three separate terms in the Louisiana State Senate and two separate stints in the U.S. House of Representatives. He also made unsuccessful bids for Congress in 1990 and governor in 1995 before later returning to win additional elections.
Election officials said future ballots will feature a permanent “Cleo Fields” line with a blank space beside it for whichever office he decides to seek that year.
Officials also confirmed they’re exploring a similar cost-saving measure for campaign signs by replacing office titles with reusable Velcro strips.
