BATON ROUGE, LA – After months of arguing that his office needs additional funding, East Baton Rouge District Attorney Hillar Moore reportedly unveiled a new strategy Thursday that he believes has a much higher chance of success: renaming his office the “St. George Legal Challenge Fund.”
Sources say the decision came after noticing City-Parish officials rarely have difficulty finding money for another legal challenge involving St. George, despite an ongoing budget shortfall.
“The mistake was calling it a budget request,” Moore reportedly explained. “Apparently it needed to be labeled ‘St. George litigation’ before anyone would approve it.”
Within minutes of the name change, finance officials allegedly approved several budget requests without reading past the title, assuming they were simply funding another round of litigation.
Employees were instructed to answer the phone, “St. George Legal Challenge Fund,” before quietly transferring callers to prosecutors.
Sources say the District Attorney is already considering a second rebrand to “Emergency St. George Legal Response Fund” after learning departments with the word “emergency” tend to move through the budget process even faster.
