QVC Declares Bankruptcy After Last Remaining Viewer Accidentally Changes Channel

WEST CHESTER, PA – Longtime home shopping network QVC announced plans to file for bankruptcy Thursday after what executives described as a “catastrophic and irreversible loss of audience,” traced back to a single viewer accidentally changing the channel.

According to internal reports, the viewer, believed to be an 82-year-old who had been watching continuously since 1998, briefly sat on the remote while adjusting in a recliner, switching away from QVC for the first time in nearly three decades.

“Once that happened, we saw an immediate 100% drop in engagement,” said one executive, noting that on-air hosts continued enthusiastically pitching a reversible cardigan to what they assumed was still a loyal audience. “We kept going for another six hours just in case.”

Employees say the network had long relied on a small but deeply committed group of viewers who preferred calling in orders over navigating websites. With that base now effectively gone, leadership admitted there was no clear path forward.

Executives say a recovery plan hinges entirely on someone, anyone, stumbling onto the channel while looking for the weather.
