BATON ROUGE, LA – Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry reportedly placed the Cajun Navy on “informal Arctic standby” this week after learning that British officials were openly discussing a possible troop presence in Greenland.
According to sources close to the governor’s office, Landry became concerned that international powers were “overthinking” Arctic security and felt it was important to remind allies that Louisiana already possesses “extensive experience with water, chaos, and things going wrong very quickly for absolutely no apparent reason.”
“The Cajun Navy has handled hurricanes, floods, and boat launches at public landings,” Landry said in a brief statement. “Greenland is just water that hasn’t melted yet.”
Members of the Cajun Navy were reportedly told no deployment orders have been issued, but they were encouraged to locate gloves, extra socks, and boats “that may or may not be prepared for lots of ice.” One volunteer confirmed the briefing included assurances that NATO protocols would not interfere with “helping people who look like they need help.”
Landry said he has not ruled out a goodwill visit, noting the Cajun Navy has a long history of arriving uninvited, setting up immediately, and improving the situation before anyone finishes arguing about whose responsibility it was in the first place.
