BATON ROUGE, LA – State Rep. Dixon McMakin was officially named the new voice of Tiger Stadium this week, but before the ink was dry on the announcement, he’d already filed his first order of business: a resolution requiring the Golden Band from Tigerland to play the infamous “Neck” after every LSU touchdown.
“Fans are tired of empty promises,” McMakin told reporters, proudly pointing to the STTDB button pinned to his shirt. “This resolution ensures the people, not the NCAA, decide what follows a Tiger touchdown.”
The resolution, which should reportedly pass in the student section unanimously, also calls for the song to be “considered an official expression of school spirit,” regardless of SEC bylaws or how much the FCC is butt-hurt by it.
Critics warn McMakin’s resolution could invite chaos, with one opponent of the measure noting, “If he gets away with this his next move could be mandating free beer with every touchdown or having one of those clowns from The Sadvocate sit in as guest announcer for a couple of plays.”
For McMakin, it’s less about tradition and more about policy: “If the people demand ‘Neck,’ I’ll make sure it’s in the constitution of Tiger Stadium.”
