BATON ROUGE, La. – Governor Jeff Landry has unveiled a new plan to reduce auto insurance costs: offering discounts to any Louisiana resident willing to stop driving in Baton Rouge altogether.
“Look, the numbers speak for themselves,” Landry said. “If you’re not dodging potholes, weaving around drivers with expired Texas tags, or trying to avoid being caught in the middle of a shooting at a red light, your risk drops dramatically.”
Under the new initiative, drivers who sign a pledge to stay out of Baton Rouge behind the wheel will qualify for reduced insurance premiums.
Insurance companies were quick to support the idea, with one spokesperson calling it “the first practical traffic solution this state has ever seen.”
Critics argue the proposal ignores deeper problems like failing infrastructure and public safety. Landry responded, “We’re not here to fix Baton Rouge—we’re just trying to make insurance cheaper. Saving a few lives is just a bonus.”
“Technically, walking through Baton Rouge might still void your policy—we’re checking,” added one insurance advisor.
