NEW ORLEANS, LA – Officers with the New Orleans Police Department confirmed Monday that actor Shia LaBeouf was taken into custody during Mardi Gras festivities, though authorities stressed his behavior was “largely consistent with standard Bourbon Street operating conditions.”
According to police, LaBeouf was observed shouting passionately into the night, gesturing dramatically at strangers, and attempting to deliver what witnesses described as “a very committed monologue” to a group of confused tourists holding neon daiquiri cups.
“At first we assumed he was just someone’s cousin from Metairie,” one officer explained. “Nothing about it stood out.”
Investigators say the situation escalated only after LaBeouf attempted to direct bystanders into a loosely organized second line and began critiquing a street performer’s emotional range.
NOPD clarified that while the actor’s intensity was impressive, Mardi Gras guidelines still require participants to maintain “baseline functionality,” including the ability to stand upright and distinguish a balcony from a stage.
Officials added that, statistically speaking, he was not even in the top ten most theatrical individuals on the block that evening.
