Julia Letlow Enters Louisiana Senate Race After Clearing Party’s Only Hurdle: Not Being Bill Cassidy

MONROE, LA – Louisiana Republicans confirmed Tuesday that Rep. Julia Letlow officially entered the U.S. Senate race after easily satisfying what party leaders described as the only remaining requirement for the job: not being Sen. Bill Cassidy.

According to party officials, Letlow’s announcement was met with enthusiasm from voters who have spent the past several years focused almost exclusively on Cassidy’s vote to impeach former President Donald Trump, a decision many Republicans continue to treat as politically disqualifying.

“We haven’t had time to dig into her voting record yet,” said one Republican voter. “But we did verify she’s not Bill Cassidy, so she’s already ahead.”

Sources say the current primary environment has streamlined the decision-making process for many conservatives, with ideology, policy positions, and experience now viewed as optional discussion topics to be addressed later, if at all.

Cassidy’s campaign reiterated that he stands by his impeachment vote, while quietly acknowledging that Louisiana voters remain committed to not standing by him. Meanwhile, other potential candidates are reportedly considering entering the already crowded race after learning the qualification bar remains low, but extremely specific.

GOP officials said further vetting would occur later in the process, possibly after early voting, assuming voters don’t get distracted by finding yet another candidate who isn’t Cassidy.
