GONZALES, LA – In an effort to reassure residents concerned about the resubmitted Harvest Fields development proposal, developers announced this week that every new home will include a complimentary set of sandbags, describing the addition as “just another premium neighborhood amenity.”
Company representatives stressed the sandbags should not be interpreted as an expectation of flooding, but rather as a thoughtful welcome gift designed specifically for Louisiana homeowners.
“We looked at what buyers really need,” one spokesperson said. “Some neighborhoods offer pools or clubhouses. We’re offering peace of mind that stacks neatly along your garage wall.”
Developers added that upgraded floor plans will also feature extra storage space for emergency supplies, generators, extension cords, and whatever else residents insist has absolutely nothing to do with the subdivision itself.
Neighbors attending the public meeting remained skeptical, noting they’ve heard plenty of promises before but couldn’t remember complimentary flood protection ever making the marketing brochure.
Developers later clarified that homes marketed as “waterfront lots” would simply be those demonstrating the neighborhood’s premium stormwater retention features.
