BATON ROUGE, LA – A local tech startup has launched “BridgeBet,” a mobile app allowing drivers to place real-time wagers on how long it will take to cross the I-10 Mississippi River Bridge during peak slowdown hours between 5:00 AM and 11:00 PM.
Using live traffic feeds, construction updates, and what developers call “historical disappointment data,” the app generates constantly shifting odds for each attempt. Users can bet on outcomes like “under 10 minutes,” “over 30 minutes,” or the popular longshot, “before next election cycle.”
Founder Marcus Delahoussaye said the concept came from years of residents treating every crossing attempt like a calculated risk. “We’re just formalizing what people were already doing in their heads,” he said.
Early testers report the app has made the experience more engaging, even as wait times remain largely unchanged.
Developers say a premium version is already in the works, featuring DoorDash integration for mid-crossing meals, a built-in calendar tool to reschedule the rest of your day, and a vehicle aging tracker that estimates depreciation in real time.
