NEW ORLEANS, LA – Facing potentially three months of gridlock on I-10, New Orleans officials finally sprang into action to remove an overturned garbage truck wedged under an overpass—only after being told the vehicle may have historical significance.
According to sources inside City Hall, a local “military relic enthusiast” informed the administration that the trash truck might have been part of the Confederate supply line and could have hauled battlefield waste during the surrender at Appomattox. Within hours, cranes were dispatched to immediately remove the truck from its current location.
“It’s important we honor history, especially trash-related history,” said a city spokesperson, who asked not to be named due to the ongoing investigation into why the truck has sat untouched for days.
Despite the truck clearly being a 2018 model, city officials say they’re “not taking any chances.”
The truck will now rest in a city-owned lot, right next to several Confederate monuments and one 14-year-old streetcar that looks like it “might have been there too.”
