NEW ORLEANS, La. – In a touching display of civic pride, New Orleans officials have come together to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the city’s most famous ghost town: the abandoned Six Flags theme park.
“For years, we assumed it was just an extremely well-done Halloween attraction,” said Councilman Ray Dufresne. “Turns out, it’s been abandoned since Katrina. Who knew?”
To mark the occasion, city leaders held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the rusted front gates, which promptly collapsed upon being touched. Plans for revitalization include hosting “urban explorer” tours, installing an “official” squatter village, and using the park as a backdrop for future dystopian Netflix series.
While developers have floated ideas for redevelopment over the years, each proposal mysteriously vanishes like a politician during a corruption probe. For now, the Six Flags ruins remain the most stable piece of infrastructure in the city.
