BATON ROUGE, LA – Thousands of Louisiana residents reportedly arrived eager to sign the recall petition against Governor Jeff Landry this week, only to discover they would first need to present a valid government-issued photo ID, a requirement many organizers spent the last several years publicly describing as discriminatory, suppressive, and vaguely fascist.
Witnesses say confusion spread quickly through the signing line after volunteers repeatedly asked attendees to “please have your ID ready,” causing several supporters to accuse organizers of participating in systemic disenfranchisement.

“This creates an unfair burden on marginalized communities,” said one woman moments before being informed the rule was mandatory. “I had no idea recalls would involve this level of voter suppression.”
Organizers defended the policy by explaining that verifying signatures is critically important when attempting to remove a Republican governor, but deeply problematic during regular elections.
Several volunteers were reportedly forced into hour-long philosophical debates after attendees asked why requiring ID for a petition was considered “common sense security,” but requiring it to vote remained “an attack on democracy.”
State Republicans reportedly sent thank-you cards to recall organizers for producing Louisiana’s most effective pro-ID advertisement in years.
