BATON ROUGE, LA – Former LSU head coach Brian Kelly has reportedly withdrawn his $54 million lawsuit against the university after discovering that his official termination notice had been sitting in his AOL spam folder since late October.
Sources close to the case say Kelly, who still uses an aol.com email address “for professional matters,” initially believed LSU had failed to formally notify him of his firing, prompting the legal battle. The missing email was located after a paralegal suggested checking “the other tab with the yellow triangle.”
The message, sent at 2:14 a.m. with the subject line “Administrative Update: Thanks for Everything,” clearly stated that his employment had been terminated “effective immediately.” Attached were a PDF copy of the dismissal letter and a commemorative PowerPoint titled “Moving Forward: 2025 and Beyond.”
LSU officials expressed relief, saying the discovery “saves the university tens of millions and dozens of unnecessary Zoom hearings.” Kelly reportedly admitted he should’ve noticed the warning signs earlier, including the fact that his key fob stopped working and that his office had been converted into a satellite office for Jeff Landry.
When asked for comment, Kelly said he now plans to transition to Gmail “as soon as he figures out how to download Chrome.”
