BATON ROUGE, LA – Amid growing complaints over skyrocketing gas bills, Delta Utilities clarified Thursday that customer charges have not meaningfully increased, and that residents are instead “experiencing a noticeable decline in financial durability.”
In a statement, the company explained that while bills may appear significantly higher than in previous years, the issue is largely due to customers having “less money than they remember having.”
“What people are seeing isn’t higher bills,” said a spokesperson. “It’s a recalibration of their personal economy. The numbers haven’t changed, their ability to handle them has.”
Residents across Baton Rouge insist their usage remains the same, with some reporting bills nearly double what they paid under previous service. Delta confirmed those figures are “within expectations,” noting that expectations have also changed.
“I didn’t suddenly start using twice the gas,” said one resident. “Unless breathing counts now.”
Delta encouraged customers to review their budgets, reduce unnecessary luxuries, and consider alternative heating methods, including layering clothing or “briefly standing outside to reset perspective.”
The company added that customers seeking clarification can call support, where representatives will further explain why everything is fine.
