BATON ROUGE, LA – Following Thursday’s press conference announcing new campus security measures, officials confirmed an additional step in their fight against tailgate chaos: deploying a dozen mobile Taco Bell pop-ups along the north side of campus to intercept stoned individuals before they make it past Highland Road.
Interim LSU President Matt Lee said the move complements other deterrents like closing Unity Field, blocking vehicle access without a pass, and cracking down on disorderly conduct, including marijuana use. “We’re taking a zero-tolerance approach to unsafe behavior,” Lee said, “and a full-tolerance approach to Chalupa Supremes.”
Dubbed Operation Crunchwrap Containment, the program uses strategic aroma deployment to lure high or hungry visitors toward a safer, more controlled environment. State Police say the scent radius of melted cheese and refried beans is expected to reduce campus loitering by up to 60%.
Each unit will feature LED lights and blast Callin’ Baton Rouge by Garth Brooks, on a loop. The university insists the new deterrents aren’t excessive, calling them “a creative balance between law enforcement and late-night cravings.” Students say it’s the first time LSU has ever used “Taco Bell” and “public safety” in the same sentence.
