NEW ORLEANS, LA – The nation’s leading escape room company, EscapExit, has filed a cease-and-desist letter against the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office, alleging the jail has been “operating a fully immersive, unsupervised escape experience” without a license.
The complaint comes after ten inmates escaped through a hole behind a toilet in May, followed by a separate incident last week where a completely different inmate was accidentally released due to a clerical mix-up involving matching last names.
“They’ve combined physical challenge, easy puzzles, and zero oversight into a real-world breakout simulation,” said an EscapExit spokesman. “Frankly, it’s genius. But it’s also theft.”
The franchise fears the jail’s success could damage their brand by setting unrealistic expectations. “Our customers don’t actually get to roam the city after solving our puzzles. OPSO offers a more authentic post-escape experience.”
The sheriff’s office is now exploring monetization options, including a subscription-based “Escape of the Month Club.”
