BATON ROUGE, LA – Two Louisiana police chiefs attending a Baton Rouge law enforcement conference this week may have mistaken the event’s title, “Building Community Trust” for “How to Commit Federal Crimes and Get Caught.”
The chiefs of Oakdale and Forest Hill were arrested by federal agents mid-conference after allegedly filing a fraudulent armed robbery report to help someone obtain a U-visa, which is normally reserved for immigrant crime victims. In a cruel twist of irony, the arrest occurred just steps away from a breakout session titled “Ethics in Policing: What Not to Do.”
Attendees reportedly assumed the dramatic takedown was a live training exercise until one chief asked if his room deposit was refundable.
Conference organizers are now updating next year’s schedule to include: “Crime Stoppers: Especially If You’re the One Committing It.”
Federal officials praised the arrest as a collaborative success, noting: “Nothing builds trust in law enforcement like arresting law enforcement.”
